Walk through the small gate and follow the path towards the lake further away, you’ll see our sauna there. For sessions after 5pm when the café is closed, drive to the end of the car park and you'll see a couple of small signs 'Black Swan Sauna' and a wide galvanised gate. The ground can get muddy depending on the time of year, so we recommend bringing suitable shoes for walking on grass.

Talking Too Loud & SwearingA sauna is not a living room. Keep conversations quiet by using your ‘sauna voice’ or save them for outside. For many, silence and whispered conversations is part of the ritual. Also be mindful with your words, no one wants to hear your swearing or deep conversations. Let's support the feel-good hormones like endorphins which leave you feeling relaxed, positive and refreshed. Not Rinsing Before Using The Plunge PoolsAfter sweating toxins and heavy metals on your towel inside the sauna, let’s stay hygienic and use the outdoor shower to have a quick rinse before cooling off in the plunge pools. We even have a warm shower option. Pouring Water Without Asking Your perfect heat might be someone else’s too much. Before adding water to the stones, check with the others during shared communal sessions. Pour only small amounts at a time, as too much water will reduce the heat released. The steam (Löyly) is a spiritual part of the sauna, aiding skin cleansing and soothing the respiratory system. Spreading Out On The BenchLeave room for others by keeping your belongings close and making space for others. Be considerate, if you notice an elderly person or someone with mobility issues who may struggle with a top bench, move up or move along. Kindness goes a long way. Forgetting Your Towel Always bring two towels, one for hygiene to sit and sweat on. You’re also be grateful you did, as the benches can get very hot! Keep the clean and dry towel for the end of your session. Bringing Food or Alcohol Inside the SaunaFood and alcohol are not permitted inside the sauna. The Sauna hosts reserve the right to refuse admission to intoxicated individuals to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all. We also recommend you avoid eating (or at least eating too much) within a couple of hours before your session to allow your body to focus on increasing blood flow and detoxing. After your session, enjoy some food, stay hydrated, and share how great you feel with someone! Not Rinsing Your Feet A foot bucket is provided next to the plunge pools, please wash your feet before entering. If you choose not to wear flipflops, we also ask you to rinse your feet with the foot bucket in front of the sauna steps before you enter the sauna. Touching The StoveThe sauna stove and chimney are extremely hot, do not touch them. For your safety, only the sauna host may handle the stove. Don’t Comment On People's BodiesWe are inclusive and the sauna is for everyone. Don’t comment on other people's bodies as it could make them feel uncomfortable.

Please know that during the summer months, this lake has an ecology condition known as duck itch or 'swimmers itch' which in some people can cause a skin rash. Glove Dippers swimming members tend to only swim in the lake during October to mid-April months as this isn’t an issue during cooler months. As a refreshing alternative, you always have access to our cold shower facility and our two plunge pools for an invigorating cool-down. Just taking a break outside in the fresh air and letting your body temperature cool down before going back inside the sauna is also recommended. We have plenty of seating options all around the changing hut!

Yes! We have two plunge pools available. If you’re joining a communal session, please be mindful that these are for a quick dip (a couple of minutes) to allow everyone a chance to use them. As we are off-grid, we can’t guarantee a consistently cold temperature on hot days, as we don’t have a cooling system. However, our cold shower is always available, and we recommend cooling down gradually in the fresh air throughout your 55-minute sauna session.
